Facebook

This always happens. Most of you know that I haven't have Facebook consistently. Sometimes I leave my account open, sometimes I don't.. But this has happened every time I have Facebook! My poor blog gets neglected. I seem to just get wrapped up into having Facebook be my media outlet, whereas when I don't have Facebook, my blog is my media outlet. One of these days I WILL update the blog!!

Convenient bow holder

I always find hair bows in the car and diaper bag!! Anytime I find one in the car, I clip it onto the air freshener. The other day we were driving and I noticed how funny it looked. But man, it's SO convenient!!!

P.S. Don't mind the HUGE crack in our windshield!

O'Learys Seafood Restaurant

For Father's Day Jon's awesome sister Katie got him a gift card to O'Learys Seafood restaurant in Annapolis. The restaurant is RIGHT next to the Wharf! We just barely used the gift card this past weekend! Jon's Aunt and Uncle were here visiting from Georgia, so we all went out! It was delish! The only seafood I will eat is Salmon, and they had an amazing salmon dish! More pics to come of our fun weekend with our guests!!

P.S. Those are mosquito bites on Scarlett's leg! Not bruises LOL. (Just to clarify so people don't think we abuse our child!!!) :)

Life Long Allergy

VERY long story. I'll try to make it as short as possible.
Last year Jon and I purchased a King Memory foam mattress at the RC Willey Memorial Day sale.
Within about 3 weeks, I had developed a rash. A rash so bad I looked like I had a disease. It was all over my face, both arms, chest, and legs. I was beyond miserable, to say the least. I was literally bed ridden. Jon and my mom had to take care of Scarlett because I couldn't, it was THAT bad. (I could go on and on and on about how bad it was and how many different things I tried to get rid of it and/or figure out what it was from, but if I did, this post would be miles and miles long...). Oral steroids is what cleared it up eventually.

After multiple visits to regular Dr's and no answers, then Dermatologist visits and still no answers, I finally went to an Allergist. SO glad I went to an Allergist. The regular Dr. was convinced this was from normal summer allergies. I thought "Are you CRAZY???? This is NOT from cotton floating around in the air!!"

Like I said before, long story short. We determined that our new memory foam mattress caused me to have a reaction. My mother-in-law is actually the one who brought this to my attention when she purchased a memory foam pillow, and the tags had warnings all over them saying to "air the pillow out to avoid any possible reactions" Well, just imagine laying on a slab of chemicals (yes, memory foam is filled with chemicals, including FORMALDEHYDE) for a month without knowing what was causing my HORRIBLE rash. How ironic, I was bed ridden and my bed was causing the problem.

Thanks heavens I went to an Allergist who gave me the answers that I desperately needed. After multiple tests, finally one came back positive, to Methylchloroisothiazolinone. A preservative that is found in....pretty much everything. After we found out what I was allergic to, the Allergist gave me a packet of information on what exactly that really long word that I still can't pronounce, is. He also told me to go home and look at the ingredients in all the products I had been using to see if it was in any of them.

Sure enough....the FIRST thing I looked at when I got home was my bath and body antibacterial hand soap (that I obviously use many many times a day), it was in there.
As I continued my search I found it in my:
-Hand Soap
-Dish Soap
-Shampoo
-Conditioner
-Body Wash
-Scarlett's baby wipes
-Laundry soap
(to name a few....)

So here is the conclusion we all came to (including the allergist): I was exposed to a mixture of very strong chemicals from our memory foam mattress which triggered a reaction. The reaction was so horrible, that it has forever damaged me and I now have a PERMANENT allergy to Methylchloroisothiazolinone, which is found in SO many things.

Life with this allergy is not as easy as you would think. The main problem is that pretty much every household cleaner and laundry soap, DOES NOT list the ingredients on the bottle. I have to go online to find lists of ingredients, which is not a big deal. The problem is when the websites of these products DO NOT list the ingredients either!!! Then I am stuck. If I don't wear gloves to do pretty much everything any type of cleaning, then my fingers/hands start to get a reaction that won't go away until I put topical steroids on them.

Sigh..... I guess things could REALLY be a lot worse. This is just more of an inconvenience in my every day life. I can't use soap in public restrooms, so I carry my handy dandy Anti Bac with me. I had to RE WASH every piece of fabric in our house in new laundry detergent (baby clothes, bedding, towels, my clothes, blankets, etc) And not just things we wear/use currently, I had to wash anything that I will ever wear or come in contact with AGAIN. So....EVERYTHING. I obviously have to check the ingredients of everything I come in contact with (above mentioned) and also makeup. I have to bring my own shampoos and conditioners to hair salons and hotels. I can't touch any baby wipes that aren't ones that I have purchased (like from a stranger). Doing dishes is a big challenge.....this goes back to the stupid companies that don't list ingredients on their websites. I use "hypoallergenic", "dye free", and "sensitive skin" everything (and still end up with a reaction.) I still have reactions every other week or so. If I have touched something with that really long word in it, then my fingers start to look like this....

It's just difficult trying to keep track of EVERYTHING you may come in contact with. (Try it!!)

Anyway, I guess the reason I blogged about this is because I am reminded on a daily basis about this dang allergy. One of life's many challenges, Right?!

Anniversary dinner at Red Robin

My mom sent Jon and I some money for our Anniversary, and insisted that we treat ourselves to dinner! We had little Scarlett with us, which was just fine! We love Red Robin. Only Jon says it's not a "real" Red Robin here because they don't have fry sauce. In fact, they don't even know what it is. The first time we went there since moving to Maryland, we asked for fry sauce and they said "Huh??? What??" So...I guess it really is just a Utah thing! Here is a picture from our outing. Jon was taking the picture. Scarlett does not look very happy, but she loved her Mac and Cheese nonetheless! We love hanging out together!

A day and a half with no electricity.......

.....is NOT fun!!!!
We were one of the millions here on the East Coast, that was hit by the awful storm (of which, there was NO warning whatsoever)! Friday night the electricity went out. Saturday EVERYONE had the same idea, "Let's go to breakfast and to the mall since we don't want to sit in our house with no AC!" A few spots here and there didn't have problems with power lines. No one wanted to sit at home in their sweltering hot houses, so everyone was out and about, trying to cool off in public places! At home: No TV. No internet. No phone. No computer. Nothing!! I found myself so bored, I sat and colored in Scarlett's Tangeled coloring book for an our while she took a nap! Last night it was SO hot. I got no sleep. The dogs were even panting IN the house. Ahhhhh!!!! Power wasn't supposed to be on till Monday, or even Wednesday this next week. BUT, luckily, around 9 am, the power in our neighborhood turned back on!! Hallelujiah!!! I am SO glad. Living with no electricity in this heat and humidity, is AWFUL!!! Yay for electricity!!!! (I don't think I will ever take it for granted again)

Swimming Suits

While searching for swimming suits this Summer, I have been SO confused as to why whole piece swimsuits range from 100-150 dollars??!! Why? Come on, it can't possibly cost more than 30 bucks (at MOST) to make a swimsuit. I just don't understand. I never remember one piece suits costing that much! Anyway, I found these 2 swimming suits. One of them is 97 dollars, and the other, 33. I went with the 33 dollar suit, thank you (Yes, I know, I am a cheep-O. I just decided my family needed to eat, more than I needed that dang 97 dollar swimming suit!) But really? Can you even tell THAT much of a difference?! I ordered mine, it came in the mail today, AND.......I LOVE IT!! It's so nice to have a beach 2 miles down the road. If only my child liked the beach......But the good news is, after we paid several times to get in, we were informed (a little late...) that for military, all you have to do is flash your handy military ID card, and.......You get in for free!! Ahhh, the perks of being military.

This suit, 33 dollars ......

Hair

I have a BAD habit of messing with my hair. I love coloring it. I didn't go to hair school and don't know how to do hair. But for some reason, I love messing with mine!! I have done my own hair for years (not cut, just color)

I recently went from this........

To this.....All dark. I didn't like it. So.....I pulled out the bleach. And I got myself in trouble because...

this is what happened......

when I tried to bleach over the newly died hair. Okay so, this is all a learning experience for me! Now I know what NOT to do!! Anyways........

I did the best that I could without having to dye it all dark again. I REALLY didn't want to go all dark. So, I kept messing with it. Jon thinks I am the biggest weirdo because everyday I am doing something to my hair!!
This is how it turned out. I am fairly happy with it. I did streaks all over, which you can't see in this picture. I thought I was doomed when it turned orange, but through trial and error, I finally am pleased with how it turned out.
